November Praises and Requests

Praises

  • Praise God that Vianney decided to follow Jesus this month!
  • Praise God that Nick B. experienced the Holy Spirit for the first time in his life!
  • Praise God that He is doing so much on campus - bringing both Christians and non-Christians to join our InterVarsity family!
  • Praise God that we raised enough money to go the Native student conference with our 2 Navajo students Kim and Benny! And praise God that each Utah InterVarsity is sending at least 1 student to this conference!
Prayer Requests
  • Pray for safe travels to the Native Conference (WJEF?) on Nov. 8-11th.
  • Pray that Kim, Benny, and the other students from Utah would experience Jesus and have their questions about how they can be Native American and follow Jesus answered. Pray specifically that nothing would keep Kim from deciding to follow Jesus at this conference.
  • Pray that God would give us wisdom as we ask students to apply for leadership positions in the chapter, as we select students to be on our leadership team, and as we decide what this team will look like.
  • Pray that God would call specific students to come to chapter camp. They will begin registering before Christmas break and there are only 22 spots.
  • Continue to pray for growth in boldness, prayerfulness (God has answered this in many ways already), and unity in Christ for our fight team and our chapter.

October Prayer Requests

Praises!

  • Praise God that Anna is on a new journey of following Jesus!
  • Praise God that Benny rededicated his life to Christ!
  • Praise God that Kim and Benny want to go to InterVarsity's Native American student conference!
  • Praise God for that the reach of our Bible Studies has been between about 30 students each week!
Prayer Requests:

  • Trilogy (Oct. 11-13): Please pray that students would sign up to go to this potentially life changing conference, that our community would grow stronger and that new students would feel welcome through this weekend. Also pray that our students would have a safe trip out to Idaho for the conference.
  • Would Jesus Eat Fry Bread? (Nov. 8-11): Please pray that we would be able to raise the money we need in order to go with Kim and Benny to this conference.  Also pray that it would answer the questions they have about being Native American and following Jesus.
  • Pray for Vianney, Nick, Joseph, and Danny as they continue to meet one on one with us and seek out Jesus.  Pray that nothing would hinder them from coming to Him and pray that God would give us wisdom to answer their questions.  Pray that God would open their eyes and that they would have soft, teachable hearts.
  • Pray with us for our community! We have been consistently praying for God to grant our community three things: boldness, prayerfulness, and unity.  We would love for you to join us in praying for these things.
  • Continue to pray for our Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday Bible studies that they would reach more people with the Gospel and that they would be able to go deeper with those who are already coming.

  • Praise God that we had spiritual conversations with almost 200 UVU students this week!
  • Praise God for the UVU Fight Team (16 students) who helped with the proxe, followed-up with each contact, and are continuing to spread invitations.
  • Praise God for the 12 students we met who were interested in meeting one-on-one to talk about who Jesus is and what the Bible has to say about it.

Prayer Needs
  • Pray for our Fight Team of core students.  They are giving so much of their time and energy during the first 3 weeks of school.  I am going to share their names in case you would like to pray for them by name: Nathan, Nick, Becca, Alyssa, Joanna, Shanan, Daniel, Kalea, Brock, John, Sonora, Stephen, Heather, Kylee, Russell, and James.

Summer Prayer Requests

*Tuesdays: Pray for our last two Bible Studies.  We will be studying 3 John and doing a prayer activity on campus.

*Summer: Pray that our students would continue to minister to their friends (and classmates for those who are taking summer classes).  Pray that God would give them opportunities to share the Gospel and/or invite these friends to Bible study.

*Levi and Anna:  Pray for these two LDS students who we met this summer.  Both are disenchanted with the LDS faith and want to leave, but are being held back by their families.  They are both interested in knowing the Jesus of the Bible and exploring true Christianity.  Pray that the Holy Spirit would continue to work in them and that their eyes and ears would be opened! Pray that the enemy would not be able to lay a finger on them while they are seeking after God.

*Fundraising: Please pray for our fundraising - the God would bring generous givers who want to participate in what He is doing at UVU.  Please pray for us to be fully funded and be able to be on campus full-time.

*Fall Planning: Please pray for us as we make plans for next semester.  Also pray that God would continue to get our students excited and motivated to bring His Kingdom to the UVU campus.

*Fall Retreat: Pray that our fall retreat (August 16-18) would go well.  Pray that students' schedules would allow them to come.  Pray that the evangelism training we are leading would be practical and students would be comfortable sharing their faith with their friends.

*First Week of School:  Pray for our evangelism outreach event "Faking It."  We (us and our IV students) will be talking to students about things we fake in our everyday lives and things we fake with God.  Is our relationship with God real?  This gets at the heart of the issue in LDS culture: are we acting religious (faking it) or do we truly know who God is and what He has done for us?

March Praises and Prayer Requests! (AND CAMP PICTURES!!!)

  • Praise God that Sonora chose to follow Jesus! Please pray that He would continue to bring healing and transformation to her life as she seeks out what it looks like practically to follow Him.
  • Praise God for safe travels to and from camp, for all of the donors that helped send students to camp, and for the opportunity to be with other college campuses during the week!
  • Praise God that our students desire to bring authenticity back to a campus and culture that prides itself in looking great on the outside, no matter how rotten or dirty the inside looks.  Pray that these students would be given the opportunity to renew their campus.
  • During camp, God shone His light into many dark corners of our students' lives that they have never shared with anyone; please pray for continued healing for them as they repent of the things that keep them from Jesus and as they face temptation to fall back into old habits.
  • Pray for our last month of school, that we would finish well and not lose momentum as we move into summer!
  • Please continue to pray for all of our non-Christian students as they study God's Word and have conversations with fellow students.  We desperately want to see them follow Jesus.
  • Praise God for new relationships with the religious studies department on campus! We were asked to join the new Inter-Faith Council that the department has set up.  Please pray for God to use this opportunity to help us love and serve the campus and to shine His light to all of the other religions being represented there.

February Prayer Requests

THANK YOU FOR YOUR PRAYERS! They are heard and answered -- so keep praying!

  • Please pray in faith with us that God would bring 20 students who are eager to study His Word at Mark Camp during UVU's spring break. We have 11 students committed to coming so we are half way there!
  • Please pray for the GIGs (Group Investigating God) that we are starting this semester.  Samantha is leading two GIGs (basically a 5 week Bible study with a non-Christian) and is trying to start up one other GIG with students that she has met.
  • Pray for the non-Christians who are regularly interacting with InterVarsity.  Several are former LDS students, a couple are currently LDS, and several are atheist or agnostic.  Pray that we would be salt and light to these students, that we would love them well, and continue to show them who Jesus is and why He is worth following!
  • Pray for our fight team! January was hard and our core group of students is tired.  Pray that they would continue to pursue their non-Christian friends on campus and that God would provide the strength and rest they need until spring break.
  • Continue to pray for our weekly Bible studies.  We just finished studying the Sermon on the Mount and the application was challenging to many of our students.  Pray that students would continue to wrestle with and let Scripture impact their lives.
  • February 22nd we are hosting "Ask an Evangelical" night on campus.  Pray that curious, seeking students would come and ask questions about what it means to be an evangelical Christian and to follow Jesus.  Pray for wisdom for Samantha, Justin, Brad (our supervisor), and Nate (one of the pastors at our church) as we answer the questions these students have about what we believe and how it is different from Mormonism.
  • Praises:  Praise God that we have so many students committed to the spring break camp!  Praise God that we have many non-Christians interacting regularly with our group this semester! Praise God that prayer and Scripture study are being done on campus!
  • For Justin and Samantha:  We are worn out. This past month has been our busiest month of ministry since being on staff.  We LOVE our job, but we also need to learn to rest better.  Pray that God would provide us with the strength and energy that we need, but also that we would be wise about how we spend our time.  And please continue to pray that we would find close friends.  Thank you!

Prayer Requests for January

Here are some things you can be praying for in the month of January:

  • Bible Studies --
    • Our first Bible Studies start the week of January 14th.  We will be studying the book of Matthew and asking students what it looks like to follow Jesus.
    • For the first time, the Monday Bible study will be lead by two students (no staff!).  Please be praying for Nick and Becca as they lead together.  Shanan and Justin will be leading the Wednesday Bible study. And I (Samantha here) will be heading up the Thursday daytime study.
  • Club Rush --
    • January 15th and 16th we will be participating in a club fair. The students came up with the idea to attract people with a game of cornhole and then invite them to Bible studies.  Each day we have at least 5 students signed up to help tell people about InterVarsity!
    • Please pray that students would be attracted to our table and that InterVarsity students would clearly and boldly share about Jesus and invite them to a Bible Study.
  • Athlete Dinner --
    • Our athlete dinner this month is January 18th! Please pray that our four regular athletes would be bold in inviting their friends to come!
  • Fight Team --
    • Our student fight team is made up of 10 students who desire to be active in sharing Jesus with the campus.  Please pray for the spiritual warfare they will face this semester, that God would protect them and that they would be bold and Spirit-filled.
    • Each student on the fight team has identified at least 2 fellow students that they are praying for and that they have committed to inviting to Bible studies, social events, trips, etc.  Please pray that God would work in the hearts of the 20 students they have identified!
  • Justin and Samantha --
    • We are finally starting to attend the young couples small group at our church.  Please pray that we would make friends and find community here.  Thank you!
